INTRODUCTION
Magic, as an art of healing, pleasing, frightening, eluding and simulating, was being practised all over the world from time immemorial. India was ovated as the 'Land of Magic'. In India, it is as old as her civilisation. In the hands of bad men and ugly motive seekers, 'Magic' can become a dangerous weapon. Magic is an art of secrecy, still it has an air of discipline, dignity, dazzle and decor. It is light and beautiful contrary to 'Black Magic'. It is the art of creating illusions agreeably. In 'Magic' a beautiful girl is cut into two halves in the light of the open stage. Anything can happen in the world of magic. Nothing is impossible, especially the impossible.
In the famous 'Rope Trick of India', the Magician climbs up the taut rope amidst a crowd of spectators in the middle of the bazaar just to be invisible into the thin air under the open day light.
Magic, as an art, is
a symphony of health, beauty and joy. Magic cannot die and Magic will not
die - because it intrigues everybody right from the age of eight to eighty
- eight. The lure of Magic is instintictive, we can no better erase it
than we can remove the sense of self - preservation.
The Magician is perfectly
frank about his desire to mystify because he is the perfectly honest disciple
of a fundamental instinct.
